The McNew Lab at the University of Arizona is a collaborative and research-driven environment focused on bird ecology, parasites, pathogens, and host-parasite interactions.
Using methods like fieldwork, captive experiments, genomics, immunology, and statistical modeling, the lab investigates ecological and evolutionary processes.
Available Projects Include:
1. Master’s Project (January 2026): Studying nestling health in response to Philornis parasitism in the Galapagos (co-supervised with University of Vienna).
Requirements: Advanced/native Spanish or German & interest in international fieldwork.
2. PhD Project (August 2026): Ecology and evolution of Galapagos birds and parasitism.
Requirements: Genomics interest/experience, Spanish proficiency, field research interest.
