The Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) is hiring a
Media Manager to support its acclaimed JUST Stories project. This fully remote, part-time consultancy covers a parental leave period from July to October 2025.
The role offers a unique opportunity to drive media strategy and public engagement for a groundbreaking initiative focused on people-led climate solutions. You’ll work at the intersection of media, climate action, and human rights, ensuring global visibility for stories that highlight just, equitable transitions toward a net-zero economy.
About the Role
This consultancy allows you to shape media narratives in the lead-up to COP30 in Brazil, focusing on upcoming stories around housing justice in Spain and indigenous-led forest restoration in Brazil. You’ll be instrumental in pitching these stories to top-tier media outlets and engaging key audiences through digital and traditional channels.
About JUST Stories
Launched in 2024, JUST Stories is a global storytelling project that elevates the voices of workers, indigenous groups, and frontline communities pioneering inclusive climate action. It captures how local and global stakeholders are achieving a just transition through collaboration, innovation, and resilience. The stories, and the recently launched public database, aim to influence policy, inspire action, and shift climate discourse toward people-first solutions.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Strategic Communications: Design and implement outreach strategies for high-impact stories.
- Media Relations: Secure global coverage by identifying compelling angles and fostering media connections.
- Content Creation: Craft press releases, pitches, and human-interest media materials.
- Digital Campaigns: Lead social media efforts to extend story reach and engagement.
- Thought Leadership: Write op-eds and articles to position IHRB and JUST Stories in the climate justice conversation.
- Media Monitoring: Track coverage and respond to emerging opportunities.
- Stakeholder Updates: Provide regular communications updates to IHRB’s leadership and partners.
- Team Collaboration: Align closely with researchers and project staff to ensure message consistency.
- Event Media Engagement: Coordinate media activities for project-related events and discussions.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a dynamic communicator with at least five years of experience in media relations, communications, or journalism, ideally with a focus on social justice, sustainability, or human rights.
Key Qualifications:
- Established media contacts in environmental and social sectors
- Academic or professional background in journalism, media, or communications
- Strong planning and project management skills
- Experience working with vulnerable or underrepresented communities
- Social media strategy and content development expertise
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks across multiple time zones
Consultancy Details:
- Duration:July–October 2025
- Days/Month: Up to 9
- Rate: £300/day (VAT included)
- Location: Remote (must be within ±2 hours GMT)
