About the UNESCO Internship Program

The UNESCO Internship Program offers students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain first-hand experience working within a multicultural and dynamic environment. Interns support UNESCO’s programmes and initiatives while developing academic, technical, and professional skills that prepare them for future careers.

Interns are placed in different UNESCO offices worldwide, where they contribute to meaningful projects aligned with the organization’s mission of promoting education, culture, science, and communication across nations.

Eligibility Requirements (2025 Intake)

To qualify for the UNESCO Internship Program, applicants must:

  • Be at least 20 years old at the time of application
  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) OR have graduated within the last 12 months
  • For technical or assistantship roles: be in the final year of a technical/secretarial programme or have graduated in the last 12 months
  • Have strong command (written and spoken) of English or French (working knowledge of the other language is an advantage)
  • Possess good knowledge of computer systems and office software
  • Show ability to work in teams and adapt to an international environment
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills

Note: Applicants with only a completed bachelor’s degree and not enrolled in a graduate programme are not eligible.

Application Process (Step by Step)

Follow these steps to apply for the 2025 UNESCO Internship Program:

  1. Prepare your documents
    • Motivation letter (clearly explaining your goals and interest in UNESCO)
    • Updated résumé (CV)
    • Academic transcripts and proof of enrollment or graduation
    • Translations in English or French if documents are in another language
  2. Fill out the online application form
    • You will have one hour to complete the form, so have all documents ready
    • Use only English or French during the application
  3. Submit and wait for review
    • Your application remains in the internship portal for six months
    • Managers across UNESCO offices worldwide will review applications
  4. Selection process
    • Only selected candidates are contacted directly by UNESCO managers
    • If you don’t hear back within six months, your application was not successful

  • Internships are not remunerated — there is no financial compensation
  • Acceptance into the program does not guarantee permanent employment, but many interns use the experience to strengthen future career opportunities
  • Ensure your contact details remain valid for at least six months after applying
